Cherie Blair QC, Patron of the Opportunity Now Awards

Introduction from Cherie Booth:  Patron of the Opportunity Now Awards.

I am delighted to support the Opportunity Now awards and help celebrate the achievements of organisations that have clearly put gender issues on their business agenda.
I have always believed that creating workplaces that work for both men and women is not just the right thing to do for individuals and society, but that it is also a business imperative. Given the current economic climate, it is reassuring to see so many employers featured in this booklet that have also seen the business necessity and are doing such innovative work to ensure their organisations are inclusive and diverse.
I believe that the current recession provides an opportunity for both women and employers to challenge the status quo and create workplaces that really work for all.
The case studies in this section are from organisations that have been shortlisted for one of the Opportunity Now awards in 2009. Together they form an outstanding collection of best practice which I am sure will provide ideas and inspiration for all employers.
All the organisations in this section should be commended for the commitment and dedication they have shown in their pursuit of equality and diversity.

The Judging Process

The 25 Awards Judges were looking for innovative and sustainable initiatives or programmes of work.  A short listing panel selected finalists from anonymous entrants. The finalists then had to present to an award specific judging panel.
