Business in the Community Workplace
Business in the Community is one of The Princes Charities . Established over 25 years ago at the request of HRH Prince Charles after the Toxteth riots in 1981, Business in the Community seeks to inspire, engage, support and challenge companies on responsible business, working through four areas: Community, Environment, Marketplace and Workplace. With more than 850 companies in membership, Business in the Community represents 1 in 5 of the UK private sector workforce and convenes a network of global partners.
Opportunity Now is the gender specialist programme within the Business in the Community workplace campaigns platform. The mission of workplace is to speed up the introduction of responsible employment practices which can deliver benefit to both business and society. Following a common methodology applied across Business in the Community , workplace seeks to inspire, engage, challenge and support members. Working in both the private and public sectors the workplace campaigns are able to offer specialist support and advice in four key workplace areas,
is the only membership organisation representing employers who want to transform the workplace by ensuring inclusiveness for women, supporting their protential to be as economically active as men.
Business in the Community's Race for Opportunity programme works with businesses to ensure that race is no longer disproportionately challenged.
Business Action on Health aims to highlight the business benefits of better health at work and to make reporting on workplace health issues commonplace in UK boardrooms.
Business Action on Skills tackles the issue of poor literacy, language and numeracy in the workplace by supporting employers in developing and implementing Government-supported workplace training programmes
In addition, Opportunity Now and Race for Opportunity also provide specific benchmarking surveys on gender and race for their members. This service, combined with a broad and ongoing research programme enable the four workplace campaigns to help and support their members with best practice recommendations and cutting edge workplace actions.
